Choreographer. Teacher. Dancer.

Michael Waldrop was born in Los Angeles, California. He has toured the world, performing with Ballett des Theater Koblenz, State Street Ballet, and Pasadena Dance Theatre, as well as guest performances with Odyssey Dance Theatre, Seamless Dance Theater and the Covent Garden Dance Company’s international gala, Ballet in the Park. During this time, he performed in the classical and contemporary works of Peter Chu, Andreas Heise, Daniel Ezralow, Steffen Fuchs, Bella Lewitzky, Cathy Marston, Ihsan Rustem, Tom Ruud, William Soleau, Uwe Scholz, and Josie Walsh.

From the world of concert dance to the commercial industry, Michael has also appeared in film, television, print, and stage productions including the feature film Underground Comedy, ABC’s Bunheads, Nickelodeon’s Fresh Beat Band, and the Emmy Award winning opening routine of the Jerry Lewis Telethon. Other credits include the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, industrials for Disney and MAC Cosmetics, performances at Downtown Los Angeles’ Music Center and the Getty Museum for the Dance Camera West Film Festival, the American Choreography Awards, and a feature in an edition of Life Magazine.

Michael has created original works for Theater Koblenz and the Joffrey Ballet School, as well as commissioned presentations for Marymount Manhattan College, the Joffrey Ballet School, and the School of State Street Ballet. His work has been shown throughout the United States, Canada, Japan, and Germany, emphasizing dynamic, extension, and flow through a classical and contemporary vocabulary.

Michael currently resides in New York City and instructs at the Joffrey Ballet School and Peridance Capezio Center.

Marymount Manhattan College’s “Friends of Dance” Benefit Gala

The Marymount Manhattan College Dance Company will perform an excerpt of “No Longer Tomorrow” for the “Friends of Dance” benefit gala. Restaged on twenty-two dancers, the performance will take place at Marymount Manhattan College on January 24, 2019.


APEX 2019 at Peridance Capezio Center

February 23-24, 2019

An excerpt from “Without the Words” will be remounted and morphed into a new work, “The Beginning of an End.” A story of love, loss, and the subsequent flood of memories that allows one to vividly experience everything once again, will premiere at Peridance Capezio Center’s APEX, February 23-24, 2019.


New Creation for the Joffrey Ballet School

May 25, 2019

A new work will premiere on the dancers of the Jazz/Contemporary Trainee Program at the Joffrey Ballet School. “A Present Past” explores the effect of the past on the present, shaping our subsequent perspective on how we see the world at this moment in time. The creation will premiere on May 25, 2019 at the Ailey Citigroup Theater, New York City.

Michael joins the faculty of the Joffrey Ballet School Summer Intensive for three unique experiences throughout the United States: the NYC Ballet Intensive, the San Francisco Contemporary Ballet Intensive, and NYC Jazz/Contemporary Intensive.
